Your factory fuel tank stores the gasoline your engine needs to produce the power that moves your vehicle. The tank delivers that fuel to the engine by means of a fuel pump that typically sits inside it. The fuel is then routed to fuel injectors that are located in each engine cylinder. There the gas mixes with air that's also been introduced into the combustion chamber, where the two mix and optimize engine performance. Fuel tanks are generally composed of either metal or plastic high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Metal tanks are either steel or aluminum, and are effective in limiting emissions. Plastic tanks can be formed into complex shapes, which allows them to be placed in ways that save space. Fuel tank sizes range, with SUVs typically equipped with much larger tanks than compact cars feature.

Even top-quality fuel tanks may eventually fail. Components in plastic fuel tanks, such as the vent value, are integrated into the tank's mold and can't be replaced when they warp. Metal fuel tanks may rust and cause flakes to contaminant your fuel. Look for signs such as leaking fuel, the smell of gasoline when you’re sitting still, or your "Check Engine" light coming on. Fortunately, the solution is simple. First, have a technician verify that your fuel tank is at fault. Then, search for the authentic Mopar® fuel tank that's specifically designed to fit your model. You'll find it in our online inventory, ready to be shipped out.
