What are Spoilers & Wings?
Spoilers are the fins found on either the trunks, hoods, or roofs of vehicles. (Cars and SUVs, for instance, generally have them on the roof, trunk, and/or front or rear (the last are called lip spoilers). Sports cars, though, generally have dynamically adjustable active ones, if not simpler air dams. Trucks, on the other hand, usually have bed spoilers or cab spoilers.) They do two things. One, they add a stylish look. Two, they make a vehicle slightly more aerodynamic.
Wings, in contrast, are larger versions of spoilers, and almost always reserved for the rear-ends of supercars and other serious performance vehicles. They're usually of two different kinds -- either whale-tail (also called "tea trays"), with slightly raised edges that sweep up from the trunk area, or gurney-flap (also called wickerbill), with small tabs that stick out from their edges and that can point up to further increase downforce. They're designed to do so, in fact, at high speeds specifically, making them great for the track.
Both can be made of nearly anything you can imagine -- ABS plastic or fiberglass, silicone, carbon fiber, you name it. How they both work is simple, too: they force air to move across a vehicle's body in ways that significantly reduce air resistance. The three main benefits of this are improved traction, a smoother drive, and sometimes, a slight gas mileage bump.
If you're looking to repair or upgrade yours, you should choose the genuine article.
Why Buy Genuine Mopar vs. Aftermarket Spoilers & Wings?
The brand manufactures them to your vehicle's exact specs specifically, right from the start. It even color-matches them, too. That's a fit-and-finish promise you're unlikely to get from spoilers and wings on the aftermarket.
