Your engine burns fuel to create the power that moves your vehicle down the road. That fuel contains contaminants, though, even after it's been processed. That's why the factory installed a fuel filter. It captures these pollutants before they can get to your engine; if they made it through, they'd eventually accumulate and cause trouble. Most vehicles have their fuel filter installed in the fuel tank. If it goes bad or get clogged with muck, your fuel system will start to have problems when it comes to moving fuel through.
The signs of a failing fuel filter are fairly easy to spot, fortunately. Your car or SUV may start shuddering when you're idling or start rougher than normal. Other signs include a lagging response to pressing the gas pedal, or engine misfires and stalls. The most severe examples are a failure to start, the "Check Engine" light coming on, or complete engine failure. To confirm that a bad fuel filter is the source of the trouble, have your vehicle inspected by a certified Mopar® mechanic. If yours does need replacing, the best option is always the genuine OEM fuel filter that was designed to fit into your specific model. You can order yours online, right from our auto parts catalog.
